Tongue Piercing
You may not be surprised anymore to see people with pierced tongues,
lips, or cheeks. But you may be surprised to know just how dangerous
these piercings can be! They can cause cracked or chipped teeth, blood
clots, or even blood poisoning. Remember that your mouth contains millions
of bacteria and can cause infection in a piercing site. Your tongue can
even swell large enough to close off your airway!
Common symptoms after piercing are altered eating habits, pain, swelling,
infection, injured gum tissue, severe bleeding, or nerve damage.
